Costa Rica was discovered by Christopher Columbus on September 18, 1502. Columbus was on its final discovery tour of the new world. Named by the Spanish Gil Gonzalez Davila to Costa Rica, the meaning is “rich coast”. The name was inspired by the local Carib Indians who used to wear golden bands through their noses and perceived as rich-ness by the explorers. However, evidence of human existence in Costa Rica dates back as far as 10,000 years ago. Costa Rican President Oscar Arias Sanchez was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize when he successfully managed to end the Nicaraguan civil war in 1987.
The official country language is Spanish, however most Costa Ricans speak a little Eng-lish. A country filled with stunning scenery, rainforest, volcanoes, beaches and an amazing array of plants and animals, Costa Rica is a dream come true for many. Many real estate investors have made themselves a niche little profit by buying real estate in the country, but it needs to be said that the market is unregulated which means that dealing with reputable companies only is highly recommended.
